Build Recruitment is currently partnered with a leading multi-disciplinary consultancy with their search for a Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor. They will play a crucial role within the cost management team, contributing to ongoing innovation, quality, and expansion. Their support to the team management will ensure the seamless delivery of numerous projects while maintaining consistently high service standards for esteemed clients. These projects encompass a broad spectrum, with costs ranging from £1m to well over £400m. The team oversees a diverse array of projects, guiding them from initial concepts and business cases through design phases, procurement, and finally, construction. Actively engaged in the successful execution of these projects, they collaborate with clients of international renown.

Among the current projects are:

  • Sports stadiums and arenas
  • Construction and renovation of healthcare facilities focusing on acute care and mental health
  • Development of teaching facilities, seminar spaces, and laboratories for Russell Group universities, with a nod towards heritage preservation and student accommodation
  • Urban renewal projects initiated by local authorities, encompassing housing, retail, and infrastructure
  • Complex logistics and warehousing projects demanding advanced storage solutions and high bay structures
  • Endeavours in the pharmaceutical sector, bolstering the UK’s vaccine manufacturing capabilities
  • Projects centred on sustainability, aiding clients in achieving their Net Zero objectives
  • Collaborations with motor racing entities and international circuits to transition production lines to electric vehicles
  • Development of commercial properties and science parks
  • Global projects for the Defence and Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office

Their responsibilities will revolve around delivering cost management services across multiple projects, spanning various stages of the construction lifecycle:

  • Conducting pre-contract cost planning and post-contract cost reporting
  • Participating in design and progress meetings
  • Reviewing design documents, drawings, and specifications
  • Leading tendering and procurement activities
  • Conducting valuations and managing risks
  • Facilitating conflict resolution
  • Cultivating positive relationships with clients and the contracting supply chain
  • Overseeing project execution and providing accurate cost management advice
  • Managing a team of cost managers, offering daily guidance and support, and ensuring service excellence
  • Contributing to bid preparation and submission
  • Maintaining an updated database of project case studies and benchmarks
  • Supporting internal and external events, CPD sessions, and thought leadership activities
  • Assisting with project documentation and ensuring compliance with quality assurance standards

Their previous roles in cost consultancy demonstrate:

  • Proficiency in key benchmarking metrics for cost plans and budgets
  • Competency in measurement using 3D digital tools
  • Expertise in preparing comprehensive tender documents and managing procurement processes
  • Experience in negotiating contracts with Tier 1 contractors
  • Educational background in cost management or related fields, preferably accredited by RICS
  • Ideally, membership or progress towards MRICS status
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Ability to manage project finances effectively while mitigating risks
  • Possession of a valid UK driving licence
