Role: Assistant Accountant – Housing Maintenance/ Refurbishment

Salary: £24,500- £32,500 (6 month FTC)

Location: Tunbridge Wells

The Role:

My client is a management consultancy that specialises in asset management and property maintenance in the housing sector.  To support their continued growth, they are looking to employ an Assistant Accountant to join the consulting team. 

They are keen to recruit an experienced interim Assistant Accountant who has operated in a similar sector to maintenance and/or housing.  The right person has great attention to detail, is hard working, self-motivated and tenacious, and enjoys being part of an energetic, positive, and professional winning team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure daily/ weekly/ monthly financial processes are completed accurately and to the required deadlines
  • Manage financial reconciliations and related financial controls to ensure they are competed accurately and on time
  • Complete all month end accruals, including any required prepayments and stock adjustments
  • Analyse and investigate variances /exceptional items, producing reports to aid management control
  • Provide financial analysis that supports accurate monthly accounts with outputs produced within agreed timescales and specifications
  • Provide support to the business on achieving vfm on subcontractor and material spend
  • Be aware of and follow the Clients policies and procedures

Key Outcomes:

  • Ensure Accounts are a true and accurate reflection of the business/department
  • Managers are supported and all necessary work is completed on time
  • The preparation of all financial and other returns as required
  • Key control accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis and any reconciling items are reviewed and resolved within agreed timescales
  • Provide support and guidance to the Finance Assistant
  • Teams work collaboratively to deliver reliable, consistent and high-quality services
  • Clients enjoy working with the team as a trusted professional partner

Essential skills and experience:

  • Energy, enthusiasm and a drive to work hard and learn as part of an experienced team
  • Positive, polite, organised and professional in everything that they do
  • Ability to work effectively without high levels of supervision
  • Experience of working in teams and alone, and delivering to challenging deadlines
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word
  • Proven ability to work methodically, follow procedures and manage information
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively - in writing, face to face and by phone

Desirable Skills:

  • Understands the context in social housing
  • Previous experience of SUN Accounting
  • CIMA part qualified or equivalent
